Description:
Supervised practicum within the clinical setting. Provides laboratory practice in hematology urinalysis, microbiology, serology, clinical chemistry, and immunohematology. Emphasis is placed on clinical skills and performance in areas such as specimen preparation and examination, instrumentation, reporting of results, management of data, quality control, recovery, isolation, culturing and identifying microorganisms, detection and identification of antibodies, the typing of blood, compatibility testing of blood and blood components, computerized instrumentation and the ability to recognize technical problems. Upon completion, students should be able to organize tasks and to perform various basic laboratory analyses with accuracy and precision and to be prepared to enter the work force.
