Prerequisite(s): University Advanced Standing and admission to Professional Education Program or permission of department chair. Examines the philosophy of Developmentally Appropriate Practice in connection to interactions with kindergarten children, preparing the classroom environment, and planning/implementing instruction. Addresses the role of play to support learning in all areas of development. Includes strategies for supporting children's social, emotional, and cognitive development. Introduces the principles of intentional teaching. Emphasizes lesson planning in all content areas. Addresses the teacher's responsibility in creating a child-centered environment that supports creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.
