This course will cover the basics of avalanche hazard awareness and stability assessment. Introductory level material covering terrain evaluation, safe travel protocols, self-rescue, snowpack formation and metamorphosis, stability test procedures, and interpretation and decision-making strategies, will be presented and practiced. Students should have some experience in winter backcountry travel and skiing.
