Description:
A formal- theoretical development of classical electrodynamics. Topics include vector calculus, differential form of electrostatics, multipole expansion of electric fields and scalar potentials; dielectric; differential form of magnetostatics, vector magnetic potential, magnetic materials; Maxwell's equations, electromagnetic waves, Green's function method of electromagnetic waves, antennae, retarded potential; special theory of relativity, four-vector formalism, Lagrangian formalism of special relativity. Recommended Prerequisites: PHYS 4410 AND MATH 3150. Recommended Corequisites: MATH 3160. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in (PHYS 4410 AND (MATH 3150 OR MATH 3140 OR MATH 5440)).
