Description:
This laboratory-based course explores the numerous applications of genetics used to understand biology and medicine. Specific topics include characterization and manipulation of DNA and RNA, structure of genes and control of gene expression, genome organization, epigenetics, and the basis of human diseases. The focus is on applications and current research, including genetic testing, biotechnology, forensics, medical genetics, ecology, and evolution. Three lecture/lab hours and one 3-hour lab per week.
