This course will provide an overview of the field of clinical child psychology. This course will provide exposure to the history, theories, and potential causes of psychological disorders in childhood. The course will emphasize assessment, diagnosis, and treatment approaches for a wide range of childhood disorders. While the field of psychology has various theoretical approaches, this course will take an evidence-based approach in examining disorders of childhood. Students who take this course will be able to a) identify the main theories of the etiology of childhood disorders, b) gain basic knowledge of diagnosis and prognosis of common childhood disorders, and c) identify evidence-based treatments for specific disorders.
