An introduction to the field of foundation engineering concentrating on the geotechnical background necessary for foundation analysis and design. Topics include shear strength of granular, cohesive and partially saturated soils; subsurface exploration and testing; lateral earth pressures and retaining walls; slope stability; settlement and ultimate bearing capacity of shallow foundations; seepage forces and filters. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in (CVEEN 3310 AND CVEEN 3315) AND Full Major status in (Civil Engineering OR Construction Engineering).
