Description:
Students will learn to read, produce, and teach the English Braille American Edition (EBAE) code and the Unified English Braille (UEB) code to young children who are blind or visually impaired. Students will learn the uncontracted/alphabet braille contractions, rules of usage for contractions, use of the Perkins braillewriter, and slate and stylus while gaining a knowledge of contracted/grade 2 braille contractions. Emphasis is on accuracy of brailling/transcription, application of rules, beginning formatting, and teaching strategies. Prebraille strategies, braille assessment, IFSP development and instructional planning are included. Prerequisites: "C" or better in SP ED 5410.
