Description:
Moving image in the visual arts is the topic of the course. The material covers experimental non-narrative film, which flourished in the early 1900s; video art, which emerged in the 1960s; and artist's films which have been increasingly popular since the advancement of digital technology. The course discusses similarities and differences between these media and unique artistic opportunities that each one offered visual artists in twenty and twenty-first centuries. Works from different regions across the world illustrate the conceptual and technological complexity of the moving image. (As needed) [Graded (Standard Letter)] Prerequisite(s): ARTH 2720 or ARTH 4750 or instructor permission required - Prerequisite Min. Grade: C (2.0) Repeatable?
