This course introduces students to the field of public history, teaches skills in historical interpretation and archival research, and explores the challenges of presenting the past to a variety of audiences and contexts. This course will balance lecture, media experiences, primary document analysis, interpretive tours, and group projects in an effort to expose students to the diversity of historical contexts and the difficulty in interpreting the past for public consumption: in museums, archives, television, podcasts, libraries, and digital spaces.
