This course will examine the history of animal services and welfare in the United States and how the field has evolved over a century to become one of the most rapidly developing professions. This field interfaces with public safety but also complex issues like community wellness, social justice, socio-economic inequity, municipal excellence, economic development and more. Students will go from looking at the past to looking at the present and the future of the field of animal services as a profession, both nonprofit and in the municipal worlds.
