SP ED 5442 - Advanced Braille Codes

Description:
This course will prepare students/future teachers of students with visual impairments to better support children who are blind or visually impaired in the development of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills. Students will learn the advanced braille codes (Unified English Braille (UEB) Math/Science and UEB with Nemeth) while acquiring an introduction in braille music, foreign language braille, and computer braille. Students will learn how to transcribe math and science materials (including pictures, diagrams and graphs) into braille using appropriate formatting and will be introduced to techniques for teaching children who are blind or visually impaired mathematics and science. Students will also learn how to use/teach the Abacus. Prerequisites: SP ED 5410 AND SP ED 5441
