This course is designed to provide students with an overview of the contemporary response to race and crime. It will focus on policies, procedures, practices, and agents that make up the criminal justice system in the U.S. and how all of these factors affect race, ethnicity, and justice. Additionally, this course will explore the complex relationship that exists between the criminal justice system and the social construction of race. We will be exploring the origins, nature, structure, and functions of social capital and justice from a number of different perspectives.
