Covers the growth and development of repertoire for Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion instruments, from their early years to the present. Emphasis is placed on standard literature, as well as current trends and composers. Includes study of music for solo, chamber, and large ensemble, and for both performance and pedagogical engagement. Students find resources that guide musicians in selecting music suitable for programming as well as explore the roles the literature fills, including service music, art music, entertainment, and education. **COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLOs) At the successful conclusion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Investigate and articulate the evolution of woodwind, brass, and percussion music and their masterworks. 2. Examine the ways woodwind, brass, and percussion music function in our society. 3. Analyze and evaluate musical scores in preparation for rehearsal, performance, and instruction. 4. Study, select, and teach music for various ensemble types, ability levels, and audiences. 5. Build a framework for finding both traditional and emerging music for woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments and ensembles. SP (odd)
