Description:
This course will further develop student's skills in backcountry travel by introducing and developing orienteering and navigation skills; understanding backcountry nutrition and cooking; and preparing for efficient, longer duration trips. Other aspects of the course include expedition behavior, decision making, outdoor leadership development and risk management and mitigation. Classes will be experiential and the curriculum will focus on developing off of basic skill sets learned from ORPT 1030 and/or previous basic experience. Students are required to participate in a weekend backpacking trip. (Fall - 1st Session, Spring - 2nd Session) [Graded (Standard Letter)] Prerequisite(s): ORPT 1030 or ORPT 1035 or instructor permission - Prerequisite Min. Grade: C- Registration Restriction(s): None
