A critical introduction to the thought of the three best-known movements in ancient Greco-Roman philosophy in the centuries after Aristotle: the Stoics, Epicureans, and (especially Pyrrhonist) skeptics. Lectures require ample discussion. Assignments will be readings and papers. Assessment by papers, reading quizzes, and contributions to class discussion.
