RSM 2100 - Principles of Sport Coaching

Designed to combine sport science theory and research with the practical knowledge and methods of athletic coaching. Emphasis will be on communication, coaching philosophies and styles, basic sport psychology and physiology, and motivation and relationship management. Prepares students for coaching certification through the American Sports Education Program (ASEP). Offered intermittently. **COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLOs) At the successful conclusion of this course, students will 1. Identify and differentiate the value of coaches, coaching philosophies and styles and their applications. 2. Apply basic psychological principles, methods and applications for effectively communicating with, listening to, and motivating athletes. 3. Examine principles of behavior when coaching athletes. 4. Develop a written coaching philosophy and translate how to implement the philosophy as a coach. 5. Qualify for national certification in coaching.
