Social Determinants of Health is an insightful three-credit-hour professional development course designed to equip early-career healthcare professionals pursuing a Master of Health Administration (MHA) with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse factors influencing health outcomes. Over 14 weeks, students will explore the multifaceted aspects of social determinants of health and their significant impact on patient well-being. The course aims to introduce participants to the complexities of addressing health disparities and promoting health equity in healthcare settings through an integrated approach. By delving into the various facets of healthcare related to health outcomes, students will develop the expertise to advocate for and implement strategies that foster positive health outcomes and improve overall population health. ***COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLOs) At the successful conclusion of this course students will: 1. Determine how social and economic factors influence individual and community health and disease. 2. Synthesize cultural competency and diversity to improve health status. 3. Evaluate the health status of a population or individual using appropriate measures of health. 4. Assess the effectiveness of local, national, and global measures to reduce health disparities.
