The course teaches the fundamental rhetorical skills needed to work as a speechwriter in corporate and political industries. As opposed to writing speeches for themselves, students learn how to embody, through effective language strategies, the characteristics and nuances of other speakers, including their style, cadence, preferred phrases, and tone. They also learn about great speeches from history and what specifically made them effective, so that they can employ similar techniques in their own speechwriting. (Fall) [Graded (Standard Letter)]
