A study of lighting principles, lighting systems, light sources, layered lighting concepts, calculation of lighting levels. Voice and data telecommunications systems, communication of lighting design and specifications including budgetary limitations are covered. Lighting plans, switching plans and electrical plans are explored. Focus is given to life safety concerns, codes, and accessibility. Also, exploration of daylighting principles and energy efficiency is incorporated. Emphasis is placed on communicating a design solution by practical application of learned principles in project format. An interdisciplinary design charrette is featured as part of this course.
