    This course aims to expand one's perspectives through viewing, writing about and discussing contemporary dance. Through this course, students broaden their knowledge about the work and artists that represent today's field of contemporary dance as it is happening in the US and around the world. Through writing and talking about dance, students become more articulate in their ability to discuss ideas and in their ability to be effective advocates for dance. Students will be asked to challenge their cultural and aesthetic perceptions and biases, to broaden their artistic dimensionality and to reflect on their role in self-sustaining creativity. We will also grow our artistic community through virtual and in-person conversations with artists from all over the world. Prerequisites: Full Major or Minor Status in Modern Dance OR Department Consent.

    This course provides dance majors with continued opportunities for mastery of technical facility. Principles of alignment, connectivity, and expression are emphasized. Techniques taught can include but are not limited to: varied modern and post-modern dance forms, jazz, somatic practices, forms from the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, and varied improvisational forms. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in DANC 1320 OR Department Consent.

    This course continues to focus on fundamental technical facility, qualitative expression, and bodily connectivity. Emphasis is placed upon principles of alignment and dynamic expression in movement. Techniques taught can include but are not limited to: varied modern and post-modern dance forms, jazz, somatic practices, forms from the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, and varied improvisational forms. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in DANC 2310 OR Department Consent.

    This is the second of a two-semester sequence. The course provides modern dance majors with opportunities for mastery of ballet technique at an intermediate level. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in DANC 2311 OR Department Consent.

    This course offers extended studies in basic elements of dance composition and improvisation with a focus on dance in relationship to other art forms. Emphasis is placed on building both a verbal and movement vocabulary that embraces all of the arts. Prerequisites: "C-" or better in DANC 1420 OR Department Consent. Corequisites: "C-" or better in DANC 1320 OR Department Consent.

    This course continues exploration of choreography and the creative process. Students expand their understanding of dance composition, identify individual areas of artistic interest, and increase ability to take artistic risks inside of dance making.
