    This course provides a broad overview of globalization and its impact on international business in Latin America and Spain today. This lecture and discussion format course focuses on the trend of cross-over businesses and markets that have emerged in response to the demographic, social, cultural, political and economic shifts occurring around the globe. Students learn about the determinants of culture and the role culture plays in international business settings.

    Cultures & Languages Across the Curriculum (CLAC) offers students the exciting opportunity to apply their proficiency in a second language to the study of academic content in fields. This class is a one credit hour supplement to another three credit hour course notated on the schedule and must be taken with the corresponding course. It may be repeated for credit when the topic varies.

    Involves students in thoughtfully organized service through community-engaged leaning. Students have the opportunity to use and expand their language skills and cross-cultural understanding while doing community-engaged learning projects on campus and in the local community. Academically the course seeks to provide a better understanding of challenges and problems faced by immigrants and their communities. This course entails lectures and readings, cross-cultural communications through simulation exercises, and community service in the Salt Lake region. Prerequisites: SPAN 3020 OR SPAN 3040 OR SPAN 3060.

    This is an introduction to Hispanic Linguistics through a variety of linguistic subfields, including sociolinguistics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and pragmatics. The course will provide an overview of historic and current topics in these fields. A main goal of the course is to develop critical reading skills while learning about different theories, key terms, and various methodologies used in different types of linguistic studies. Grading is based on participation, homework, class work, and exams. Taught in Spanish. WLC 2020 is recommended as a prerequisite. Prerequisites: SPAN 3040 OR SPAN 3060
