    This course builds upon the exploration of voice for the actor through speech. Students practically explore the range of sounds that a human being can make, studying vowel and consonant formation and the use of resonance, range, and articulation as ways to facilitate the communication and interpretation of text. Students are introduced to phonetics and use this as a way of identifying the sounds they make. This class introduces skills that will be useful in the Dialects course. Prerequisites: "C" or better in THEA 2070 OR Instructor Consent.

    For Theatre Majors and Minors. An introduction to the fundamentals of play directing. Students will study and experience the craft of directing including play analysis, interpretation, rehearsal, and performance. Participants will create a director's vision that integrates all play and production elements into a unified artistic whole, and examine the evolution of the director's role in the theatre. Prerequisite: "C" or better in (THEA 1713 AND (THEA 1220 OR THEA 1120 OR THEA 1033)) OR Instructor Consent.

    Acceptance into the Actor Training Program required. Begins an extended study of elements of verse and the use of language in verse drama. Students will prepare monologues and scenes, drawn primarily from Shakespeare's texts. Prerequisites: "C" or better in THEA 2230 OR Instructor Consent.

    This is a production emphasis class focusing on the specific techniques for men's wear tailoring. Students will practice the techniques before completing them on a real garment. Students demonstrate their mastery of the techniques by building a finished wood jacket at the end of the semester. Prerequisites: "C" or better in THEA 2203 OR Instructor Consent.

    An introduction to the business of acting, including discussion of graduate school and professional possibilities, resume preparation, headshot selection, and career choices (regional theatre, New York, L.A., Chicago). Students practice presenting themselves through theatrical monologues and film audition scenes. Prerequisites: "C" or better in THEA 2230 OR Instructor Consent.

    This course explores the differences between stage and screen acting; auditioning for film, television, and industrial films are investigated. Cinematic language and on-set etiquette are examined. Prerequisites: "C" or better in THEA 3230 OR Instructor Consent.

    This course provides practical skills in creating patterns for theatrical costumes using both flat pattern and draping methods. Students will learn to interpret costume sketches into realized garments, create mock-ups and conduct costume fittings. Prerequisites: "C" or better in (THEA 1550 OR THEA 1551) OR Instructor Consent.

    This is a beginning crafts class exploring some fundamentals of costume crafts. The specific crafts to be studied will change each semester the course is offered, providing students with the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of techniques and tools used by the costume craftsperson. Crafts may include dyeing, jewelry making, millinery, and body-altering padding. This course is repeatable for credit.

    This studio course is focused on the skill acquisition of basic stage combat. Specific physical techniques will be taught and developed within the context of a choreographed fight scene.
