    This is a one-credit companion course to Intro to Environmental and Sustainability Studies, taught in Spanish. The material covered will be the same as in ENVST 2100. Course consists of a series of lectures from University of Utah faculty on a wide variety of research focuses on the environment and sustainability. The course professor will provide continuity and develop an integrated framework for understanding and analyzing the material. The course will expose students to a diverse range of research viewpoints and approaches to studying issues surrounding the environment and sustainability.

The internship requires the approval of the Environmental Studies Program. Maximum of 3 credit hours can be applied to the Environmental Studies major. Maximum of 6 credits can be taken.     Undergraduate teaching assistants (UTAs) assist with classroom instruction under the supervision of an instructor. The responsibilities depend on the class, but may include holding review sessions and discussion sections, facilitating online discussion in online courses, assisting with labs and classroom setup, and obtaining instructional materials. Permission from a supervising instructor is required before registering for this course.

    This intensive field-based course will introduce you to a variety of field ecology techniques from identifying species to calculating biodiversity. Using science, art, and literature, we will study our bioregion in preparation for community engagement with local and regional citizen science projects.

    The course will emphasize and critique prevailing theories and models of environmental and sustainability issues, specifically related to land management, conservation and sense of place. Students will also have the opportunity to brainstorm and network as to how to apply concepts and theories and discuss the relevance to their education, their role as responsible citizens, and the job market. Finally students will complete a project that utilizes their conceptual skills and what they have learned in their courses.     The Environmental and Sustainability Studies Program offers a broad, inter-disciplinary education. Students take classes from many different departments and colleges across campus, exposing students to a multitude of ideas, theories, methodologies, and perspectives. The capstone course serves as an opportunity to integrate and synthesize these diverse learning experiences. Students will engage, assess, and apply prevailing theories, models, and concepts of environmental and sustainability issues. They will also reflect on their role as educators, communicators, and responsible citizens. Finally, students will complete a project that utilizes their conceptual skills and what they have learned in their courses.     Sustainability is a complex interdisciplinary topic. This course explores the big ideas of sustainability, as well as educational theories and instructional strategies for educational program implementation. Students will design and implement education programs in a community setting of their choice.
